Standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona

Ok so where to begin. Well we played the Joint in Flagstaff on Sunday 3/15. It was a cool little venue and was actually a Bar/Venue with a strip club in the back. Let’s just say the strippers were of questionable quality. We seemed a little tired but it was to be expected after a long day/night in Vegas and a long drive into Flagstaff. Bo Peep was absolutely amazing and we all love watching them perform. At the end of the night we all piled in the Dolores and that’s when the problems started. We tried to start the RV and the battery was dead. So we jumped it and slowly made our way back to our hotel which was pretty much covered in Ice and snow by the time we got back. We all tried to get some sleep and woke up the next morning early to hit the road. We were headed to Albuquerque , New Mexico and had a lot of land left in Arizona to cover. Our Generator in the RV had stopped working so we were without any power which meant no fridge, no microwave, no TV and no laptops. An hour or so into the drive Dolores really started acting up and we ended up stopping at a truck stop in Winslow, AZ. The same Winslow made famous by the Eagles in their song “Take it Easy.” We met some really cool locals who helped us get the Generator running and we topped off a bunch of fluids in Dolores and attempted to get her running ok. We pulled out and made it about 20 min before Dolores started smoking from the engine. We had to pull off on the side of the road and try to get her to cool down. About half an hour later we started driving again only to have the battery die about 3 miles down the road. This time we ended up on the side of the road for about 2 ½ hours trying to get the RV to start working again. We almost abandoned her but ended up getting her somewhat running and headed towards New Mexico. We were planned to play a show that night in Albuquerque but were so far behind that we ended up pulling into a Kampground of America in Gallup, New Mexico so we could get some rest and work on the RV in the morning. We were pretty sure the Alternator was shot and planned to get a new on in the morning. It was only about 10pm and we were all hungry. We ended up getting a shuttle ride from the RV Park/Hotel to an Indian Casino called The Fire Rock, which was seriously a tent/dome on the side of the road. Dinner was great and we all hung out and gambled a bit. It seems they don’t have many people coming in and playing the tables because by the end of the night they gave us all Players cards and begged us to come back on the way home. When we got back on the shuttle the driver was bumping the Planet LA Sampler CD and he threw on Love Song and Angel on Sunset for the ride home. Seriously the people in New Mexico were some of the nicest people I have ever met. The next morning we got up super early and switched out the Alternator and made some tweaks on Dolores. We hit the road and started to make our way across the entire state of New Mexico and towards Texas. The drive went well for the first 7 hours but was pretty grueling. I went to sleep in the back of the RV and by the time I woke up we were in Texas and our Battery was about to die and our Alternator was shot again! We pulled into Lubbock, Texas with no headlights and proceeded to get stuck in a parking lot full of mud. We met a couple of guys that helped tow us out and in the process almost killed one of them when they almost got crushed between the RV and their pickup truck. It was super scary but he ended up being ok. We proceeded to make our way over to the venue in Lubbock and found out they had no PA!!! So like we always do we made the best of it, and ran the vocals thru a guitar cabinet. We ended up having a great show and spent the rest of the night getting drunk with Throwing Seven and Bo Peep. By 2am we ended up at a local Ihop and stuffed our faces thanks to our awesome waitress Paula! Then it was back to the Rv/Hotel for some much need sleep. As I write you now we are on our way to Austin for SXSW and should be there in about 4 hours. Can’t wait! We all have heard Austin is awesome and we are so stoked for SXSW. I finally got an internet connection so hopefully we will be able to update you day by day. Till next time.
